ponderosa education community Actions
Join us in reimagining education, restoring ecosystems, and regenerating our shared future.

Action #1 – Learn & Listen

  • Join Indigenous-led restoration initiatives – Check out ONA, Nakulamen Gardens, or Ashnola Protected Area

  • Integrate Indigenous knowledge of plants, land practices, and place-based stewardship when planning any planting or restoration work.

  • Listen to the Ashnola Playlist curated by the Lower Similkameen Indian Band (LSIB). Each listen provides funds that go directly to their restoration efforts.

  • Learn the names of the plants around you — in English and in nsyilxcən. Attend a nakulamen (what we do): syilx Traditional Plant Use Walking Tour

  • Read Medicine Wheel for the Planet by: Dr. Jennifer Grenz

Action #2 – Plant for Biodiversity

  • Join the Okanagan Stewardship Society’s Newsletter to learn about their community planting events

  • Grow native plants that feed pollinators and nourish the soil. Start with:
Snowberry, Saskatoon Berry, Nootka Rose, Blue Elderberry, Nodding Onion, Common Yarrow, Wild Bergamot, Brown Eyed Susan.

  • Join or start a seed library — collect, save, and share native seeds in your community.

  • Host a “Plant & Protect” day — gather friends to restore a local green space with native plants and a long-term care plan.

Action #3 – Participate in Community Land Healing

  • Join PEC’s Land Healing Circle. We move in rhythm with the land and meet monthly to share stories, ideas, and practical strategies for restoring biodiversity and relationships with the land. Email team@betterworldclub.ca for updated locations and times

  • Share your vision for a healthier community. What does land healing look like where you live? Write it. Draw it. Tell us.
